ADHD and want to learn an instrument? That was me not too long ago…
After a lifetime of thinking it was too late to learn an instrument, I decided at 29 I was too old to be embarassed, so I decided to learn how to sing. I loved it so much that I decided to play piano shortly after to accompany myself.
I reused the strategies I used to become an elite rock climber while coping with ADHD. In terms of skill acquisition, systematizing and compartmentalizing fear.
I started singing publicly within weeks of starting, posting covers to tiktok within a month, learning the piano and 3 months later playing full songs in front of strangers, and 6 months later playing and singing at an open mic in front of 40 people.
I’ve played piano for 173 days straight and singing 223 days straight.
My goal is to get you to lean in to your ADHD brain and use it to get good at your instrument and enjoy playing music instead of getting berated by a music teacher, or being upset at yourself for a lack of discipline.
